In either event, you can write a book review that is informative for potential readers, librarians, and booksellers. With your knowledge and experience, you can expand on your enjoyment of reading and writing by crafting a solid book review.
Here are ten steps to writing a book review.
1.In recalling a book and reviewing the effect it had on you, make some written notes about what points you want to discuss in your book review.
2.Write one paragraph for each point you are going to make about this book. Each paragraph should support the importance of the point your are discussing.
2.As you get your mind in gear, pretend that you are talking to a friend rather than writing like a professor or teacher writing to students.
3.In your first paragraph, name the author and the title of the book. What is the theme of this book? This will tell the reader immediately if your review is a book they could be interested in.
4.In that first paragraph, carefully choose words and phrases to persuade your reader that you have something to say of importance.
5.How does the author approach their genre?
6.What do you like about this book? Why does this book stand out?
7.Support your writing with quotations from the book. This supports your main points and it gives the reader a sample of the writer's style.
8. Describe the nature of the plot without giving the story away.
9. Include biographical information about the author. Were there experiences or people in the author's life that lead him or her to write this book and include those characters?
Follow this book review format and you will write a solid book review that will be informative for readers, librarians, media specialists, and booksellers who are looking for information about the very books you are already reading.
