Adapted PE for autistic children

I'm going to tell you what I believe are the best and worst sports for children and teens with Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. Remember that these listed below are just my own personal opinions.

Bad sports for people with Autism/Asperger's

Football- Too many plays to remember would easily get confused and usually have to do something different on every play.

Dancing- Too many steps, twirls, and moves to remember. Would easily get confused and frustrated.

Kickboxing- Too many rules and different moves to remember would easily get frustrated and stressed out.

Hockey- Too many things to remember including skating, shooting, passing, being on and offsides, and hits. May also get angry if they get a penalty and could get thrown out of the game.

Boxing- Could get seriously hurt and/or get serious brain damage. Boxing requires really good coordination and you have to put a lot of high demands on short term memory. You also need to be focused 100% of the time.

Good sports for people with Autism/Asperger's

Running- Not much to remember just run as fast as you can.

Weightlifting- Not a very competitive sport as long as somebody can help them learn new exercises they can succeed at it.

Martial Arts- Especially Judo, Taekwondo or Kenpo Karate: I believe these forms of Martial Arts would be good for somebody with Autism or Asperger's Syndrome because it helps work on coordination, gives self confidence, and teaches self defense and self discipline. I believe that people with Autism or Asperger's Syndrome should all try Martial Arts.

Cross Country skiing- No dangerous hills, or mountains just put some skiis on and it will be like walking.

Golf- Not much to remember just need to whack that ball nice and hard and go at your own pace. Could also get a lot of frustration and anger out.

Bowling- Helps improve coordination and doesn't have a lot of complicated rules.

Well those are what I believe are the best and worst sports for children with Autism/Asperger's Syndrome. You can let someone on the Autism/Asperger's Spectrum try whatever sports they want but the ones that I've listed above are just the ones that I believe are the best and worst.
