1. Have a food budget-what percentage of your income do you have to spend on food?

2. Shop at discount but quality supermarkets

3. Collect discount grocery coupons-many discount grocery coupons can be found online (make sure you collect coupons only for those products that you generally purchase and/or are interested in purchasing. Don't just collect a coupon because it's a coupon. You can also start a coupon trading club, where you trade coupons that you don't want for grocery coupons that you don't want for grocery coupons that you do want)

4. Make a grocery list and try not to do too much "impulse buying." Decide which products are really needed? What can you afford?

5. Buy generic products if they are just as good as the brand names
(you might buy a few brand names only if they are truly of the highest quality)

6. Buy healthy & quality products (but discount) and not too many "junk" products

7. Do not use more of a product than you need-that is, can you economize on the amount of a product that you make use of?

Note: If you spend more than your food budget, then deduct the amount from subsequent shopping. If you spend less than you food budget, then maintain it in a special food shopping account.

Saving money at the supermarket involves thinking before buying, and budgeting.
