Street people are those who have no home, no one to care for them, but each other, one's some look down on, because they don't fit the profile of a rich selfish society.
The street people are constantly hungry. They take what they can get when possible. Some eat out of dumpsters, some ask for change to buy a morsel of whatever they can. And a good part of the time, they are shrugged off, and told to "get a job."
They are always in grave danger, from gangs, bullies, or other homeless people just trying to survive themselves. It's not just men, Not just women, There are little children out there, who's families have fallen on hard times, and have very few to no choices.
The few shelters only go so far, and it's more or less, first come, first served. The others have to find shelter and warmth in the winter, and a cool place in the summer. They usually have one or two sets of clothes to their name. Most of their shoes are so worn, and so full of holes, they might as well not be wearing shoes. Most of them form a bond and stick together for companionship, comfort, and safety.
It has always bothered me as to why the Govt. thinks it's so necessary to put people on the moon, or send space shuttles up, what's the purpose for all of this, and how many billions of dollars do they spend while a lot of our American people are living on the streets, and going hungry. Some of these street people actually have jobs. The economy is so bad that a person can't make it on one paycheck.
I wonder how some of our rich politicians, or congressman, or even the big guy himself would handle one night and one day out there with no food, nor shelter. Put some holes in their shoes, take away their caviar, and champagne. It would never happen, because they don't care. Their life is rich, safe, secure, so why would they? Just stay out of the slum areas, and they can push it all under the rug.
Now that election year is upon us, all sorts of promises will be made, that will never be kept. The economy will either stay the same, or get even worse. Many jobs will be taken away, more people will be out on the streets. What have we accomplished?
People that have never had to face a day without food, would never understand. The days are cold, and the nights are colder in the winter, and there are children huddling together to try to stay warm. There are parents that cry, because they brought these children into the world, and have no way to provide for them. If you don't have an address, you can't get state aid, and if you're without money, you can't pay rent, so what's a person to do?
You remember the telemarketers we all hated talking to, well, they are all slowly being put out of a job, because everything is becoming so automated. How sad it is, and what can we do? The majority of the rich won't part with a dime, and the Govt. won't help. I wonder every year, how many homeless are left to die on the streets.
I live on a fixed income, they tell me that I am 135 percent below poverty level. I have never felt that way. Sure, it takes it all to get through the month, but I feel so blessed when I think of the homeless. What I have is not much, but it's more than they have.
Someone needs to help these people, and if we can give money to other countries, we should be able to provide for our own. Don't you think?
