I think there is a serious lack of nurturing in most families today, and with that said I believe teachers should be there for their students in every way they can. Teachers are there to teach our children how to make it in the world, if they expect results out of their students and expect the students to actually focus as much as they should it would be helpful to build a trusting relationship with them.

Right now there are too many children having children, I myself was a teenage mother and I think because of this a lot of parents do not show their children their worth to this world. Many of us are far too young to know our own worth and maybe had I been able to talk to my teachers since I couldn't talk to my mother I would have made out better.

It is of course the parent's responsibility to raise their children and yes they should be loving and caring and supportive of them as well but let's face it most parents today really aren't. Many of them are simply waiting for their government checks to increase as the number of kids does.

Growing up in a family full of secrets and lies I know first hand the impact home life has on a child and the difference a teacher can make. All it takes is one person to help a child believe in his or herself. Growing up I looked up to my teachers and believed they knew what was right and wrong about everything under the sun. Had one of them said I was worth more or that I could have made it maybe I would have taken a different route in life and lived my dreams.

It is only one person but it may be all that child needs. When society around us is screwed up beyond belief and seems that nobody can be trusted and most of us don't have an ounce of concern for anyone but ourselves it could be very reassuring to a child to see someone has a bit of compassion. Children mimic the people they idolize and if our teachers could be that to our kids maybe they'd make better choices and continue educating themselves rather than dropping out of school.
