Reflections on Christians addicted to internet porn

We are warned in the Bible to abstain from lustful practices. It is said that lust is the gateway to sin. Lust does not only mean that sexual desire, but it means to covet. To want something which is not proper is another form of lust. This applies to many things such as, power and money. It is this lust which causes us to concentrate only on ourselves and dismiss the needs of other people and the things of God.

However, the particular type of lust I want to concentrate on here is sexual lust. I chose this topic because it is probably the most difficult form of lust for anyone to overcome. I can say truthfully that I do not really like to speak about this subject, it is uncomfortable and embarrassing. However, I see too many posts in forums and I hear the questions on call-in Christian radio shows.

For some reason there is never an answer and the Pastor will generally dismiss the questions as something improper to talk about. I realize this is mostly prevalent among men, or at least that is the perception. Ladies if you are easily offended, then please do not continue reading this article because it is my intention to be honest about the subject. Please accept my humblest apology if I offend you, but I believe this is an important subject of discussion.

It is through much observation and conversation that I have decided that it is pretty safe to generalize women and men into two groups which are looking for two completely different things when it comes to sex. Women, for the most part, are looking for that intimacy that they mistakenly associate with sex. While this intimacy does exist, it only is experienced with somebody you love and that loves you back.

Men on the other hand have a big problem with sex. There are those men who spend all of their time doing nothing more than considering and contemplating sex. For men it is more of a physiological act of self gratification. We find that with the explosion of Internet pornographic sites, that men have an even more difficult time controlling their urges. This leads to trouble with sexuality and may even be the cause of troubles in a marriage where sex is not as it should be.

As an individual looks at pornography over a period of time they begin to be less excited by what they see. This is because they become acclimated to it. It is much like those daredevils you see on television, that no matter what they accomplish, they must continue to out do themselves in order to get that adrenaline rush.
