Todays role models are a far cry from the ones of yesteryear.

Todays role models are power, success, money and possessions oriented. They are geared towards work, prestige, money. They are no fun. The laughter is for impressing the boss. The evenings is for extra work - to impress the boss. The weekends is for - joining the boss, to get that big promotion. Its all about more money, power, prestige - work. Its all about being better than anyone else, stepping on whoever gets in your way - even if its your best friend. Its all about being number one - no matter how you get there.

The role models of yesteryear, were content with their lot in life. They were homemakers. They had an important job - they held families together. Sure they may have been like the maids of today but - they had time (and took time) to talk and listen to children. Imagine that! They had their jobs outside the home too, but - their home and family were their prime job. It was allot of work. For the home work, they didn't get paid in dollars but - the rewards of knowing where the children were and what they were doing and thinking - were enough reward.

The role models of yesteryear, were hard workers but, they had time to play ball with their sons afterwards. Sundays were kept as a family day - even if it was just hanging around the house watching something on the television together. Dads were more aware of what their children were doing, thinking, saying and - with whom.

The role models of yesteryear and todays, still bare the same names but - they sure are different now. Mothers and fathers are - then, now and always - the role models for us all.
