CHILDREN LOVE MAKING THINGS.

If you leave a child alone in a room,they will start to make things. It might only be a den or a paper aeroplane, but they have an insatiable appetite for learning and love putting things together.

Helping to foster this is one of the greatest things you can do for your children. There are lots of craft kits on the market for children, some of which work more successfully than others.

Some of the best are:

Soap Making Kits. Melt-and-pour soaps are easy, fun and make great gifts.

Jewellery Making Kits. Fun and funky. These can be just bead-threading for younger children, or ones with faux gems and gold-coloured findings for older children.

Candle Decorating Kits. Not the highest level of creativity, but fun and good results can be obtained.

Plaster-casting Kits. Great fun - good results. You can get these in lots of different shapes and sizes.

Mosaic Kits. Try to find one with tiles included - the ones where you have to cast your own tiles from plaster or resin really take away from the mosaic part of the craft.

Paper-making Kits. Kids seem to love these.

Ceramic Painting Kits. These come in all shapes and sizes. Piggy Bank ones are good, because the children make something really useful.

Don't forget that they will get much more out of these activities if you do them together.
