Poetry: Romance

GOOD MORNING

i awoke this morning smiling
as i lay, listening to the soft rhythm
of your sleeping breath
i thought to myself
"i am a lucky man"
i turned my head to watch the rise and fall of your breasts
as you held on to the remnants of the dream you were having
the fading light of the setting moon
softly lit the beauty of your face
how lovely you are in the morning
with your hair spread on the pillow
while your head gently rests on your arm
i lay, mesmerized, wishing that i didn't have to go
longing, just to gather you in my arms
run my fingers through your hair
press your body against mine
cup your face in my hands
and kiss you
but to do that
i would have to wake you
and i didn't want to shatter the moment
so i made myself wait
but as i dressed for work, and turned to go
i stole one last glance
whispered "i love you"
and hoped that you heard me
somewhere in your dream
