Travel experiences: Best road-trip tales

We headed out of Logan International Airport in our tiny, red, rental car to begin what would be an incredible and memorable honeymoon. With my new husband in the driver's seat and a map unfolded in front of me, we navigated our way out of Boston. We jumped on the highway and headed north to begin a journey that would take us through the New England region.

Our first stop was Lexington and Concord, the birthplace of the American Revolution. We enjoyed the rich history of the area and a lovely lunch. We then drove further north into New Hampshire to the charming Ferry Point House Bed and Breakfast situated on Lake Winnesquam. While staying here, we took day trips to visit Lake Winnipesaukee, Castle in the Clouds, Canterbury Shaker Village, and Wolfeboro. Our time here was fantastic, but it was time to travel to our next destination.

Driving through the White Mountains of New Hampshire is simply breathtaking. The mountains, trees, waterfalls, and covered bridges made this leg of our road trip very memorable. We made it a habit of watching for the brown, historic, covered bridge signs and then we would follow them until we found the very intriguing and unusual bridges. Our honeymoon album is filled with pictures of us in front of covered bridges. What memories! While staying at a quaint bed and breakfast in the mountains, we hiked, antiqued, and hoped to catch a glimpse of a moose.

Our longest drive was from New Hampshire to the coast of Maine. We enjoyed listening to music, talking together, and just enjoying each other's company; this is what makes road trips so special. Seeing the rocky coastline of Maine for the first time was incredible. A sight that I can still see when I close my eyes. Maine is gorgeous and we had so much fun eating lobster, visiting many lighthouses, and spending a day biking in Acadia National Park.

The drive down the coast of Maine back to Boston was picturesque. Exactly what I imagined it to be. After a few days touring Boston, our trip came to an end. We had created so many wonderful memories on our honeymoon road trip and we put 1500 miles on our rental car!
