Building a career that is more meaningful is something that most of us have desired or at least thought about on occasion. It's only natural to want to go on to a bigger and better position within the workplace. But going about it will be a challenge and will take some time and effort.

The first place to start is within your own company. Are there any other jobs that you would rather have than your current position? If so, what will it take to climb up the ladder to move into that spot?

Your employer may offer a career path that is required in order to be promoted into a higher level position. Following that path will require taking training courses to equip you for that career move. Check with your Human Resources Department or Training Instructor to find out how you can get started on a career path that fits your needs.

If you don't have in-house training in your workplace or if you really don't want to stay with the company you currently work for, then it's time to move on and look elsewhere. That type of tool is very valuable to head you in the right direction toward a new career.

Once you are aware of the direction you would like to go, then it's time to work out a plan. You will need to take training classes at a certified center or enroll in courses within a community college or university. With perseverance, drive, ambition and a positive mental attitude, anyone can build a meaningful career that will be rewarding and satisfying.
