First of all try and pick a hamster you think would be the most enjoyable for you(do not get to they will bite each other and one could die and the other seriously injured) Now after you have picked your hamster pick a cage that is escape proof glass, plastic wire that it cannot chew through or escape from, or metal wire that it cannot chew through or escape from. After this you should pick your hamsters bedding it should consist of shavings, pelleted, or recycled products. One good brand of bedding I use is CAREFRESH PET BEDDING. Next after this you should pick your hamsters food one good brand I use is LM ANIMAL FARMS Classic Hamster Food this consists of corn, seeds, fortified pellets, trapper peas, and sunflower seeds you can also use lab blocks but I myself prefer the mix. You should also have a water bottle for your hamster and a food dish which you can buy at any local pet shop. You must have a wheel so the hamster can get the exercise it needs. Your hamster needs affection and exercise to stay healthy. If you're in the budget please buy a small rodent running ball. our hamster in the wild would be running 5 miles a night and this will give it the exercise it needs. One fun thing you can do is train your hamster to come, go, and stop. This is fun because usually your local petco will have running ball contests once a month. Right now I am working with my hamster to train it for this. Also please get your hamster toys for its enjoyment. Also many hamsters like to have little igloo houses so they can sleep while being hidden and not disturbed. You should also have snacks which are fruits and vegetables like raisins, carrots, grapes, or lettuce. These snacks should only be 10% of its diet so it can eat its food more than its snacks. One other good thing to buy is snacks packaged for hamsters w/ seeds and dried fruit one good brand I use is Hartz snacks. Now you should have everything your hamster will need so go home and setup the cage. The bedding should be 2 inches high from the floor. Make sure to keep it out of the direct sunlight. Exercise in the ball should be 15-30 minutes daily around 6:00 at night. I usually do more for it to have allot of exercise and so that I can train it. Make sure this is also not in the direct sunlight because your hamster will die. All snacks that weren't eaten should be taken out in a 24 hour period. Provide your hamster clean, fresh, chlorine free water daily. Make sure not to feed this chocolate, alcohol,or caffeine. This should cover everything you need to know for raising your hamster. OH YEAH AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL!
