Reflections on Lou Piniella as the new Chicago Cubs manager

When I think of Lou Piniella as a manager one word comes to mind and that is passion. Lou can bring the best out of all of his players like no other. When you are winning with Lou life is so very grand but when you are losing with Lou you better watch your back. Some of the greatest coach on umpire fights of all time come on behalf of Sweet Lou who is known for his dramatics while arguing calls. Piniella once picked up the bases and threw them into the shallow outfield, what a character. He also is known for kicking dust onto the umpire in question during fights. I guess Lou just feels that if you are going to get thrown out of a ball game you might as well get your moneys worth.

Lou Pinniellas heart is second to none and initially caught my attention when he coached the Seattle Mariners in the early to mid 1990s. He coached the playoff deprived Mariners to contention and made them a playoff team. You will always get passion and a strong desire to win with Lou Piniella. I will never forget Lou Piniella fighting Rob Dibble in the club house after Lou's Cincinnati Reds lost a close game. That is what you get out of Lou Piniella, a man who will do anything to win. Many thought that after his brief stop with the hopeless Tampa Bay Devil Rays that he was done coaching but Lou just can not stay away from the game he loves so much. Baseball is Lou's life.

Lou Piniella and the Chicago Cubs are a great fit and Lou immediately left coaching retirement to join the Cubbies. The Cubbies are synonymous with their heart and the loyal hearts of their true fans and so who better to coach them then a personality modeled after the Cubs as a whole. A great heart and a great desire to win. Passion personified represents the Cubs fans and passion personified represents Lou's personality. If I was playing baseball I would want to be coached by Piniella above all others although if I had done wrong I sure would stay out of his way. Lou is one of those unforgettable people that you will meet in your life, the guy is all baseball and is all heart, just stay off his bad side.

Lou Piniella is the perfect fit as manager for the Chicago Cubs and I am glad somebody recognized that and hired him. In fact , I think it is the best fit he has been in during his entire coaching career. Lou will take the Cubs to the playoffs every year he is with them and his players will love him. The Cubs are in the playoffs this year in his first year at the helm with them. Look for more playoff runs by the Cubbies as long as Lou Piniella is there to lead them and maybe just maybe the Cubs will win a World Series under Sweet Lou's Reign. There is nobody in baseball like Lou Piniella and I am happy that he was wanted by the Chicago Cubs.
