How to spot Internet phishing scams

A New Phishing Lure

Here is a new attempt to reel you into the murky waters of Internet phishing. Instead of asking you to help, so they can fill your coffers with money, ha, ha, this is a totally different approach. This one thanks you for all your past help and asks where to send your reward. Interestingly, the imaginary person who signed this is John Morgan, yet his e-mail address doesn't match. These poor people still can't spell phony names in proper English, but I applaud their efforts to defraud us by Anglicizing their names. I guess it's to make us believe they are trustworthy. It does sound better and more neighborly than some of the odd Arabic and African names addressed to us, their friends. By the way, the e-mail of origin is johnmargona1@hotmail.com

This is what I received in one of my e-mail accounts:

*

Attn: please ,

I'm very happy to inform you about my success in getting the fund transferred under the co-operation of a new partner from Cosovo Europe. Presently Im in Cosovo for investment projects in livestock farming and dairy business with my own share of the total sum. And my partner has been a wonderful guide.

Meanwhile, I didn't forget youre past efforts and attempts to assist me in the realization of this endeavor despite the fact that it failed to work out some how.

Now, contact my secretary in nigeria, name is Faith c. Peters and her email address is (faithc_peters@yahoo.co.uk) only ask her to send you the total sum of $150,000.00 which I kept as international ATM master card for you as compensation for all the past efforts and attempts you made towards assisting me in this endeavor. I did and still do appreciate your efforts at that time very much. In fact I owe you an endless gratitude. So feel free and get in touch with my secretary Faith c. peters, and instruct her where to send the ATM to you quickly.

Please, do let me know immediately you receive the ATM, so that we can share the joy together after all the joint efforts at that time. I am very busy here because of the investment projects, which the new partner and I are having at hand,

Finally, remember that I had forwarded instruction to my secretary on your behalf. So feel free to get in touch with her and she will send the ATM to you without any delay as instructed.

Thanks, and my greetings to your family and well-wishers

With utmost regards,

Mr John Morgan

Here is the letter I sent back to my good friend, Mr. John Morgan, or is it
