Any time is the best time for a New York City visit, choose one season or choose them all.
Spring brings warmer weather and fewer crowds with outdoor activities for everyone. You haven't seen a parade until you've seen one in New York. The St. Patrick's Day and Easter Parades are two prime events that will leave you saying "Only in New York." If you want to attend film premieres or screenings, you will enjoy the Tribeca Film Festivalalways the chance to spot some famous celebrities. As the Manhattan landscape blooms of greenery remember that springtime means rainy weather, take your umbrella and possibly a windbreaker.
In summer, from Memorial Day through Labor Day many Manhattan locals are away on vacation. Why not come take advantage of the slower pace. Keep in mind that hotter temperatures and high humidity can be unbearable at times. That said New York City has excellent summer concerts, one for every liking. Wanting to try a new restaurant or different type of cuisine? Restaurant Week gives you the perfect opportunity to indulge without blowing your budget as many Manhattan eateries introduce specially discounted menus. Love the arts? Shakespeare in the Park offers free performances in Central Park, some of today's renowned actors began their careers here.
Autumn, my favoritewhen the leaves are changing and the air is crisp. Fall in the Big Apple means music and cultural festivals, concerts at Carnegie Hall and the excitement of New York football. However, the greatest event this time of year is the Village Halloween parade, when masqueraders, puppeteers, artists and street performers invade the streets of Greenwich Village. Don't care much for crowds? You won't want to be in New York City on Thanksgiving Daythat is when the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade kicks off the Christmas holiday season.
Winter in New York City can get quite cold and if you are fortunateit may even snow. The Big Apple celebrates its busiest season like no other place in the world. Events such as Christmas Spectacular, the lighting of the world's largest menorah in Central Park, department store window displays and the Nutcracker Ballet are just a few of the endless activities and traditions in which to partake. Shopping in Manhattan is phenomenal. The food, the cheer and the charm of the city are constant reminders of how truly great and diverse New York City is.
