Ah yes, Poetry.com, the name of the web site is a joke in itself ! The people who run the site, and the organisation are expert in ripping off fledgling poets by making them believe that their entry has been cjosen for the Editor's Choice Award, then making them pay for a copy of a book, where their poem appears, complete with a writer profile (at extra cost), then an invitation follows to attend a lavish function in Las Vegas so the poet can be presented a trophy...etc.
I entered a poem as a joke, and was surprised to find out that I'd been awarded the coveted Editor's Choice Award.....I paid the money to recieve the book, a CD of poetry readings and a wall plaque with my poem on it.....luckily I found out that the whole thing is a rip off and immediately ceased to have anything more to do with them, and Poetry.com make a bundle of money from suckers like me.
The poem I submitted is below, and I ask you to judge wether it is worthy of the award it was given. Personally, I don't think so, but this is the sort of junk they classify as "Good" work.
The Ride Home
Astride my stallion of steel,
Life is so unreal.
To feel the wind in my face, away Freon the Human race,
a long ride far away
To clear the work of the day.
Forget the hustle and bustle
And the straining of the muscle,
Just the Road, the Wind, the Sound
of the engine thumping down.
The tire gripping the tar
Will take me so, so far.
Until back home I arrive,
glad to be alive.
Tomorrow I'll do it again.
I'll have wait until then.
