The First Aid kit is the main toolbox' for emergencies in the home. One also has to remember that there is a big difference between Occupational first aid kits and ones for the home. A home kit is not governed by law and therefore has the advantage of being 'personalised' to suit your family.

Things about you home kit
1. It should be centrally located with all family members knowing exactly where it is. There should be a kit available outside and in the family car as well.

2. It should be easily accessible so that people are not moving items or reaching up for it in a time of need.
4. It should reflect your family's personal healthcare situation. For example: if someone is asthmatic, their appropriate medication should be stocked. The same goes for medication for ailments such as heart conditions.

Contents of your home kit.
It is important to cover the basics. The following is a basic list:
Band-aids
Gauze
Saline solution
Scissors
Bandages
Gloves
Disinfectant that is family safe'.
Tape

There are many other products that can be used. The most important thing is that your cover the basics and to ensure your kit reflects your family. It helps to have a small First Aid booklet and keep it with your kit as well as consult with your Doctor or Pharmacist about specific First Aid items for your family.
