A family friendly community requires three major aspects: a friendly environment, room for individuality and a certain level of social standards. Together, these three are the core of any family friendly setting. Let's go through each one, one at a time:
1. Friendly environment
For a family friendly community the overall surroundings need to be adjusted to be family suitable. On a larger level, this includes long-debated yet still highly important topics such as poverty and crime. These need to eliminated, or at least decreased, as far as possible. Parents need to feel safe letting their kids play outside and allowing them to explore on their own. The word "family" has a certain touch of friendliness to it, but for things to be effective the surroundings, too, need to be friendly enough to suit the families.
2. Individualism
A family is a group, but still a family friendly environment can't exist unless there's room for individualism. There must be available activities for different types of people with different interests. Giving room for personal development and individual spirits makes each individual happy, and this will have a positive effect on the group as a whole.
3. Social standards
While room for individualism is important, a family still needs to function well together. By ensuring a certain level of social standards communication between generations, possibilities for common activities where families can have fun together and good contact between family members a family friendly environment is ensured.
The three above characteristics are all highly important in the establishment of a family friendly environment. They may seem simple but are often tough to provide as a whole. Each will work as single elements but it's not until they're merged together that a true family friendly community rises. When this is achieved, a community will suit, attract and be appreciated by families and their members.
