The kids pick their costumes, sharing anxious smiles
Ghosts, witches, and robots roam the street
All sticking out their bags, asking for a treat
Flip=flops take a hiatus as boots warm the toes
Sprinklers are a memory as dad takes in the hose
Grandma's garden crumbles as the cold seeps in
Mother Nature's nightly frost always seems to win
The school bus replaces the ice cream man
It's time to use blankets and put away the fan
Mom stocks up on tissues by the ton
To catch the little noses that run
Sweet, sun-kissed skin starts to fade
Farewell freckles hello lighter shade
Pictures of aloha sprinkled across the walls
A nice escape from the crisp October squalls
Closing up camp at the last possible date
No more boating, let's get ready to ice skate!
Oh summer, I know how you hate to just quit
But fall is here, take your sandcastle and split!
