Poetry: Pressure

A Diamond in the Rough?

They say a piece of coal under extreme pressure over time will become a diamond.
I feel like I'm about to break under the pressure

How long, how long does this pressure take?
I've been told for years that the pressures I face will cause me to be a diamond.
For years, people have told me I am a diamond in the rough.

There must be a lot of rough edges in my life.
Because the pressure seems intense.

I feel like I'm always pulled
This way, that way and every way possible.
Everyone needs something
Everyone wants something

I give and give and bend and bend
Yet no matter what I do
So much is left undone.

No one sees what I do
Yet everyone sees and notices
The things I don't get done

When looking at the things I do
All that seems to get noticed are the glitches
All the ways I should have done it better.

The constant strain of never being good enough
Never doing good enough
Never being enough

While also having to deny myself the things I desire to do

If a life under pressure creates a life that shines like a diamond,
Then one of these days,
I'm gonna be a shiny diamond!

Was that a sparkle I just saw?
A glimmer or a shimmer?
Not yet!
Watch and you will see,
One of these days,
A brilliant diamond I will be.
