How prosperity has overshadowed our values and beliefs

Prosperity dims our eyes to the beautiful things of the world that is ours by simply looking at them. It is no longer enough to walk alone in lush woodlands and to sit outside and listen to the birds; with our newly acquired wealth we must possess them.

Although prosperity in itself is not wrong and is something we all aspire to, it is the use of it that often leads to our downfall. To be prosperous and not let it lead us into forbidden pathways takes insight that only a few seem to have.

The gambling frenzy that has taken over much of our thinking in the past few years is one good example. How many times have you heard about the winners going completely berserk where spending is concerned and in only a few short years back in the poor house again? Many, I am sure.

Money corrupts and few and far between are those who can resist its magnetic pull toward corruption. Yet, those who do resist and who know how to use that much needed money for feeding the poor, for medicine and healthcare for those in need, have no problem with prosperity.

Its opposite, poverty, is not the way to go either. There must be a midway point where we have enough, but not too much, and if we do, know what to do with the excess; below that dividing line is poverty and that is a miserable situation to be in. Some say in an ideal society everyone should be somewhere in the middle.

That doesn't work either, because human beings are not equally endowed and it is not right that only a few work and all eat. Besides, history has taught us that if all the money in the world was equally divided, in only a few years the industrious ones would have their money back and the poor would be poor once again.

Another sad thing about prosperity is you are surrounded with friends. But let you lose your fortune and the jolly time people will be hard to fine. They will have latched on to someone who can afford their type of friendship.

This must be something hard to live with, the nagging feeling of knowing most of those who profess to be your friends are only there for your money. The same goes for celebrity. When you are down and out your good time friends will be nowhere to be seen, and only the handful that are genuine will still be there for you. Such is life.

The above are only generalizations and prosperity does not have to have to be something to be feared. The remedy against is simple; plan out your lifestyle and decide what is enough. Above and beyond that plan out what you will do with the excess. This should be a fun exercise you routinely do in those twilight times just before falling asleep and after you have said your night time prayers.

While saying goodnight to your Creator, you will ask him to help you make the right decision on how to manage your upcoming prosperity. You certainly don't want any doubts to keep you awake and fretful.
