Maui top scenic views are best enjoyed slowly and not rushed. If you plan on coming to Maui, stay for at least ten days, preferably fourteen. Seven days is simply not enough and you will feel rushed.
When your plane lands, go directly to "Big Beach" south of Makena and take a quick plunge into the water, followed by a stroll along the 2/3's of a mile long undeveloped beach. Nothing sets the tone of a Maui vacation than this South Maui view especially at sunset.
If you are adventurous hike over the north point of Big Beach to Maui's alternative "Little Beach". Clothing is optional so the view can be questionable, but it is OK to wear clothing.
On Sundays, there is a 30 year tradition of locals doing a drum Circe till sunset. This is followed by a bonfire and naked fire dancing on Little Beach. Simply the best free entertainment on Maui with a trip to the counter culture. You will have the opportunity to swim with all walks of life from Republican federal attorney's to hippies from Paia. If some one in dread locks and a tie dyed sarrong offers to sell you a $5.00 Rice Cris-pie treat, remember that it may really expand your view if you know what I mean. Eat only one, they are strong and two may give you an out of body experience.
Take a flashlight for the walk back and exit the park before 8:00 PM so your car does not get locked in. Now you are ready to chek into to your hotel. After all there was no rush. You are in Maui.
South Maui offers the best weather on the island and you can enjoy the extravagant Wailea resort community or the quaintness of Kihei. Plan morning walks with an eye to the ocean. Wailea has a great walkway and it is a common occurrence to see turtles swimming as you walk, but to sleep near the ocean it is going to cost $500 to $2000 a night.
Kihei has great beaches that are easily accessible by very affordable lodging options, most are privately owned vacation condos. You can find great listings for both Wailea and Kihei on Vacation Rental By Owner's website or www.vrbo.com . These run anywhere from $90 to $300 a night.
The best view on Maui is probably discovered underwater. While snorkeling is great all over the island the best snorkeling view is by far Ulua Beach in Wailea. You are almost sure to see eels, turtles, and abundant sea life. This is also Maui Dive Shop's Open Water Certification location.
While on Maui you should allocate part of your time to become certified as an Open Water Diver. It only takes four days and those days are filled
