All was silent except for two beating hearts. Staring at the blackest of skies with the most vibrant glowing stars, my husband whispers "make a wish". I closed my eyes and wished with all my soul that we would love each other forever.
While it seemed like we were alone, we were not. We were on a ship with thousands of other people. I was amazed that every night of our cruise, we always found a spot to be alone and to whisper sweet nothings that no one else would ever hear.
Since that first cruise with my husband, we have ventured many places together. Overall, a cruise is always at the top of our romantic getaway list.
By the time my husband and I were married, he had already logged quite a few thousand sea miles on a few cruise ships. I had not had the pleasure of this experience as of yet. While waiting in line to board the ship, we met 7 other newly betrothed couples. I had absolutely no idea what to expect.
We arrived at the stateroom and to my astonishment my husband had a few surprises in place for me. The stateroom door was decorated with romantic sayings, streamers, and balloons. Once inside the stateroom, I found a bucket of chilled champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, a note telling me that a spa "experience" would be awaiting me after breakfast the next morning, and a beautiful bouqet of the loveliest red roses. I was, once again by that man of mine, swept away.
The entire 8 days was filled with romance. We enjoyed candlelit dinners from a special supper club on board the ship. But not before we enjoyed the most radiant sunsets from the deck. Dancing in the Piano Bar with my cheek leaning on his shoulder. Lazing in the tropical sun on the beach on Antigua or St. Thomas, with a fresh beverage concocted from fresh island fruit, and whatever spirit piqued my interest. Roaming the seaside villages, finding those special little knick-knacks to remind us of our special time together.
It has been 10 special years. Not all newlyweds, after their honeymoon, can afford a getaway such as that each and every year. But as my husband and I have matured and created a nest egg, each year, for the past three years, we have recreated that special getaway. Our next cruise we will be visiting the same islands as we had on our first cruise.
I cannot wait to stand on the deck of that ship, in our own special place and tell my husband - "my wish has come true"
