I think that we as Americans should be upset with the government for not taking care of us. We send billions of dollars to other countries and we have people sitting here dying of hunger and of health issues that they can't afford to pay for meds or doctors.
I have a friend right now who was just diagnosed with breast cancer, just about a month ago. So she went through getting the tests done and she got sent to the surgeon and was scheduled for a mastectomy the next week. She asked me to go with her to pre-register and yes she works and yes she has insurance. We get to the hospital the day before her surgery and she starts the process. She gets almost done with all the tests that they need to make sure she is safe to have the surgery and the admissions person comes and tells her that she doesn't have the correct coverage. That she will need to call the financial counselors and find out what they can do for that so she will have to put the surgery off. OK if it was a tummy tuck or something like that it would be OK. SHE has breast cancer and they need to get it out so it doesn't spread any farther then it already has. SO what she finds out it that to be able to have the surgery that next day she needs $1500.00. She is a single mother of five children, who works two jobs to make ends meet. She doesn't have that kind of money unless she doesn't pay rent, but then where would they live.
So here is my point. Even if you do have insurance it doesn't cover what is always needed, and being that we are the largest and best country in the world, why do we not get what we as Americans need? It should be our governments job to help us, we sure do pay taxes. I would like to know why other countries that don't have the resources we do, have health plans for their citizens. They may not be perfect, but I bet if my friend was in Canada right now she would not still have cancer growing in her body over a measly $1500.00.
