Getting your kids to do their chores

Kids sometimes feel they shouldn't have to do chores because the parents do everything. However, having kids do chores can teach them how to be clean and organized. In my home there's a rule; NO CHORES-NO TV;NO REC.Besides that kids shouldn't be given a choice-they should be told what to do with strong enforcements. On school days my sons have to do their chores immediately following their homework. Their chores include: cleaning their room, parts of the bathroom, and sometimes the living room. On the weekends they have to do their chores an hour after eating breakfast. Every other Sunday extra chores are expected to be done.If at any time they fail to do their chores I take some hours of TV away or I will take away the video game.

The way I see it kids like to do things for fun in the home and outside the home. My sons like to play video games, with their cars and trucks, watch tv, listening to their radio, and riding their bike outside. Therefore I have to be strict when it comes to their chores. I MEAN WHAT I SAY AND I SAY WHAT I MEAN! I do not bribe them into doing their chore nor do I give them money. A kid is suppose to eventually learn how to be responsible and dependent upon themselves. Learning how to do chores as a kid will help them later on in life as they get older. In the beginning things may not be so spic and span and Mr. Clean, but the more they practice at whatever the task the better they'll become.
