"IF YOU WANT TO KNOW...how much I miss you go and count the waves." -author unknown
(for Blondin)
In Paris
her streets wrap around me
strong and safe
so that I can walk my
two whiskeys home
alone
stunned,
numb and full
of your wanderlust
I did not turn
veiled eyes
for that last shadow
of you walking away
your sure footed boystep
streetsmart trot
I just thought and
thought
and
thought
If I could I would
pack it up
ditch this place
just to see
any possible
possibility
yes,
one last
so-what-of-youth
I'd do it
I'd go to you
A year to wait
my heartstrings
will fray
in my dreams
I walk to you
my feet bouncing
on ocean crests
anticipate
the devastating
tidal wave of your kiss
What would it be
(if it could, if it could)
your kiss?
already my lips
have brushed your
soft baby cheek
oh the sweet smell of you
innocent warm skin
and cigarettes
I'd melt
I'd swoon
I'd fall
under your kiss
crushed in the coral reef
of redemption
I inhale your smell
greedy to remember
come closer,closer,
oh pure
oh tragic
oh you oh
At the end
of our last night
empty inside
and rather lost
in her streets
could you hear
my eyes said,
hush,
no:
this is still
our beginning
Because the way
we fit
we match
is an impossible
contrast
to all the doomed
lovers
we slide and
our corners join
I say,
take a ruler to this
heart
and measure.
Our geometry
will be more
than textbook
more than all this:
walking my
two whiskeys home
alone
I couldn't stay
my lovely, but here
you will
so that
I will return to you
today
and tomorrow.
