When it comes to trying to eat healthy, unless you are a hard-core dieter, you want something appetizing sitting in front of you. Telling someone who is trying to lose 100 pounds that; even though the smoothie their about to drink tastes like dirt it has no carbohydrates is not going to encourage them to keep trying to become fit. Also you must think about why people may go to McDonald's or Wendy's in the first place? TASTE. They don't waltz in there hoping to come out 20 pounds lighter do they? No, they go to enjoy a meal that may give them a heart attack later on but is very satisfying now and that they will probably crave again later on.
Many people who are struggling with weight issues will choose a form of diet where they can eat foods that taste just as good as or even better than the non-low fat food. The diets that separate good carbohydrates from bad is just one example. A lot of dieting programs try to make sure their food look appetizing before they go forward with what their doing because they know a big percentage of business is because of taste and how it looks.
There are so many varieties of healthy food that theirs no extreme need to go on a diet that is committed to food that tastes horrible. From veggies to lean meats all you have to have is the initiative to say that even though making a healthy meal takes more time than making a carrot and asparagus milkshake you'll do it because you want to enjoy what you eat not wish you were slurping down scum instead.
