The cover of a book can only give a slight hint to the contents. Any appearance can be deceiving. I heard a long time ago Bill Gates was driving a beat up car and he was/is a billionaire. I don't know if he's driving a new car now, but if you were to look at his car__ you wouldn't know anything about him, if that's all you had to judge him by.
But in some cases you can get to know a little knowledge on some one, depending on their car's appearance. Let's say they drive a Mercedes. This could mean a multitude of things; they want their status to be known, or they want to keep up with the Joneses, or they like German engines... or it could be none of them. The owner of the car just liked the "puurty color, it's sooo shineee."
Just because a car is nice doesn't mean the person is rich, and just because the car is beat up, doesn't make the person poor. There's people who have really nice cars but they don't have a lot of money, they just want to appear like they do. In England, back in the day, when everyone use to go to the theater, you use to be able to tell how rich somebody was based on their clothes and appearance. But these clothes became more available, and the middle class started to dress like the rich. The upper class became angry because people could represent their class without actually being in it. As time goes by people are more capable of representing any class they want through imitation. Therefore, how much can you tell by appearance?
What I find to be the most ridiculous phenomena... is when these people take a car that's worth eight hundred bucks, and put rims on it that cost five thousand. Now, this says a lot about the person; they want their status to be known, they want attention, they want some one to say to them: "wow, nice rims," so their ego can grow larger. My question is: if you can afford such expensive rims, then why can't you afford an expensive car?
So, a car can tell you a lot about a person, but not all the time. If a car is full of dents and is very neglected. It doesn't mean the person doesn't care about the car's appearance: it simply means, they can't afford to fix it. To judge on look alone will give you a false representation of a person. That guy in you neighborhood that makes crazy gestures and yells randomly, you know him, the guy who you cross the street when you see him... could be one of nicest people you ever meet in you life. And the perfect neighbor who: goes to church every Sunday, has a wife and two kids, mows his lawn, and has the most beautiful smile... can be a serial killer. Don't rely on look, take it into consideration; but take other factors in as well.
In conclusion to the question at hand: "what does a car say about you?" It depends on the person and who's judging the person.
