The real truth behind exotic dancing

When I was around twenty years old I worked as a bartender, at an adult establishment. I really liked my job for the most part. However, after a year of only making a mere fifteen to twenty dollars in tips a night, I began to consider exotic dancing myself.

At the end of every night the girls would come to me to cash in their nightly tips. Most of them cleared at least one hundred dollars a night. They had no responsibility but to dance, and entertain the men. This sounded good to me.

I had no money to go to college. Or to even have a decent life. Why should I struggle through life barely making it, when I could be comfortable?. So I auditioned at the best club in town. I was hired. I continued to dance on and off for fifteen years. My experience was a good one. I don't regret one day that I was a dancer. That might surprise some people, because of the myths surrounding working in the adult industry.

The truth is most dancers are normal, average people. That like me, were sick and tired of working so hard for basically nothing. Most wanting to further their education, with no other way to come up with the money to do this. I can't begin to count all the girls I met that did exactly that. Some have went on to be teachers. Some are nurses. While others have opened their own businesses.

A small percentage of dancers can and do fall into things they shouldn't. I believe the reason being, having too much money all at once. They do not realize that they can not dance forever, and probably should invest in college, or start saving money. Instead they indulge in other things. Some are healthy indulgences. While others turn to drugs or alcohol.

There are also girls that over time are not satisfied with the money they make. They want more. So they either go into doing pornographic films, or prostitution. Sadly, I have known a few girls that have taken these paths. All of the girls that I knew that turned to prostitution are dead from contracting AIDS. The ones that were in adult films loved the money at the time, but now are so ashamed at what they had done. They try to hide the fact that they were ever in a movie at all costs. Although they never will be able to do that.

Please realize that these situations are scarce. There are a slim few that actually do these things. In most clubs drugs are prohibited. So is prostitution. If any girl is caught doing either, they are fired immediately.

I wouldn't discourage any girl from dancing. As long as she has a plan for bettering herself, and sticks with that plan, she should be alright. As for me, I have met some great people, and had a lot of fun over the years. I met my husband while dancing, and we have been married for fifteen years. We just moved into a new house, and are very happy. I have other friend's who were dancers. One of them is well on her way to becoming a doctor.

I hope I have dispelled some of the myths surrounding exotic dancing. For a young girl starting out it can be a good way to earn extra money for college. Or just simply to have a better quality of life.
