Packing tips: What not to take on a tropical vacation

Living in a tropical region and being a scuba diver, I often take trips to various islands for weekend trips. Simplicity is the key to unwinding. While fun in the sun means lighter clothing, do not pack more because it will fit. Part of the attitude involved in a tropical vacation is lounging in you swimsuit and possibly a cover up and cute sandals. Do not pack clothing that is too formal either. Most bars and hangouts are extremely casual. You waiter may or may not have a shirt. Leave the accessories at home too. You can buy cute necklaces, cover-ups, and bracelets. These will be functional souvenir of your great trip.

If you are trying to go on your trip with only carry-ons or are just trying to cut down, you can cut many liquids. Sunblock, hair remover, and bug spray are available even at more remote tropical destinations. The price may be a little higher, but judge accordingly.

Leave the water toy and water sports accessories at home. It just is not worth the trouble. It is much easier to rent the necessary equipment for snorkeling, diving, and water recreations. Usually prices are very low or complimentary when you schedule a dive or a tour. You will also have no trouble keeping the kids occupied without bringing floating toys. You can also easily get these items at your hotel for a few dollars.

You do not want to have to worry about carrying around excessive luggage or bringing something that was already provided. So keep it simple, and enjoy every moment.
