Why some people cannot succeed

There are some people out there that just go through life taking each day as it comes. They never strive for anything, they never take any risks and as a result they have no sense of accomplishment or success.

In order to succeed in life you have to want to succeed. It isn't something that can be done for you. You can't succeed by measuring your own success against someone else's. We are all different and should all have different goals for our lives.

How can you succeed if you don't have goals? Success is measured by attaining a goal or reaching a certain level. If you don't have a measurable, attainable goal how will you know if you have succeeded or not.

If you set goals that are unattainable you will feel like a failure when you don't achieve them. A very big mistake people make when setting goals is to set them so high they can not possibly reach them before they get discourage and give up. If you have a very high goal you want to strive for set goals in stages so you will have a sense of accomplishment along the way.

When you set your goal tell someone else about them. This will make you accountable to them to reach your goal and will make your goals seem like less of a dream. Tell someone you know will encourage you and who will check to see how you are doing in reaching your goal. You will find that having people in your corner supporting you will help you reach you goals. You don't have to do it alone.

If you don't succeed the first time you attempt something, don't give up. Our society does not really foster patience or determination so when people don't succeed the first time they just move onto something else. Then when they look back on their life all they see is a long string of failures. If you don't succeed the first time, change your strategy, get more experience or education so you can reach your goal. Don't under any circumstances give up.

Don't just pick goals out of thin air. For instance if you haven't gotten off the couch in ten years don't set your goal to climb Mt. Everest next week. Setting realistic attainable goals is half the battle to feeling that you have succeeded.

Make sure your goals are measurable. I want to be happier. Well, we all want to be happier, but who is the judge of when that is reached? Or I want to lose weight. How much and in what time frame? I want to make more money. How much more money, in one year or in 6 months? What steps do you need to take to reach that goal? As long as there is no "finish line" you will never know when you have won or feel like you have accomplished anything.

Stay away from people who are negative or who will discourage you. If you want to be successful you need to hang out with thriving positive people. The environment you choice to be a part of will greatly influence how successful or unsuccessful you will be.

Once you have reached your first goal, you will be even more motivated to set and reach the second one. You will find that you enjoy the sense of accomplishment and that you want to have that feeling on a more regular basis. In the same respect giving up on your goals can become a habit and each time you give up it makes giving up the next time that much easier.
