Should Christian schools be required to accept children of gay parents?

It is illegal for schools to discriminate against minorities, religious beliefs and disability. Christian schools, as other schools do, receive some funds from the state for textbooks and other educational materials so long as they are not used for religious instruction. The use of at least some state money qualifies Christian schools to follow the current laws as they pertain to discrimination. The appropriateness of having children of gay parents attend Christian schools may be considered morally questionable by other parents and the Christian community however, is it illegal for Christian schools to discriminate against children of gay parents?

The right of children to receive a free and compulsory education is only applied to the free public school system provided by the state. The state cannot deny the children of gay parents a free education legally. Christian schools may be able to deny children who have gay parents an education based on inability to pay tuition, poor academic performance or perhaps religious beliefs. Children cannot be held responsible for the behavior of their parents.

Is it legal for Christian schools to discriminate against the children of gay parents? Children cannot be discriminated against in this country for the actions or behavior of their parents. The children of gay parents who have done nothing illegal or morally incorrect cannot be discriminated against legally in the United States.

Christian schools may regard the behavior of gay parents as conflictual with their beliefs and traditions however, the children of gay parents may not demonstrate the same deviation from societies norms as their parents. Children who themselves do not practice behaviorally or in their belief systems behavior that is contridictory or conflictual with the doctrine of Christian schools should not be discriminated against even if their parents are gay.

Children of gay parents should be given the same opportunities to learn in Christian schools as other children. The acceptance of children of gay parents would present challenges to Christian school teachers. It is unfair and unjust to refuse children of gay parents admittance to Christian schools based on the sexual orientation of their parents. Christian schools have a moral obligation to teach or spread the gospel to all children who want to learn irregardless of behavior, beliefs and practices of their parents.
