An introduction to blogging

I have these little rules about blogging on Myspace that I try to stick to. I think they are good for me as they encourage me to be a bit more articulate, objective and constructive rather than gossiping and bitching mercilessly. Sometimes I just cant cope and have to slip something sly into a bulletin as they have the advantage of only being read by my friends list and they are fleeting and temporary. So here are my little rules that I try to let guide my blogs:

1. NO BITCHING . . . don't give opinions out about people you know in real life unless it is a concise and positive thank you . . . if you bitch the person you bitch about or someone that knows them WILL read it . . . also it is hard to gauge tone and humour from the written word, random readers may not understand the context without a background to the people and their relationships with each other and you may appear quite mean-spirited

2. NO GOSSIPING . . . don't give out personal information out about other people, just stick to talking about your own experiences and how you felt rather than jotting down what everyone else in the room was doing . . . you never know what they want other people to know . . . if they wanted everyone to know where they had been and who they had done they would write a blog themselves . . . even innocently saying who was at the pub or who joined you at the movies may cause dramas if they told other they were elsewhere . . . you don't want to appear indiscreet

3. NO DOBBING . . . don't talk about anything illegal, immoral, sleazy or trashy that yourself or your friends get up to (save that for comments so they have the choice to delete it) . . . the net is a public space, unless you would say it to a police officer or your mother maybe you shouldn't say it at all . . . its all public record once you publish it and some people are more guarded than others, and may have longer criminal records

4. BE INFORMATIVE . . . blog about things that people mite learn something from, whether that be life experiences, reviews or news . . . hopefully you could peak somebody's interest in experiencing or considering something new . . . ideally they leave your blog thinking their time was wisely invested and their mind is a little more open

5. REPRESENT YOURSELF WELL . . . blogs are where random people browsing and mutual friends who visit your profile and want to get to know you will go to get further information . . . so your most recent blogs are where some people will
