This game is one of the best games I've ever played, but I agree with younger kids it is very boring. Everyone needs to be able to read, and read fast, to play this at its full potential.
Once you can, though, the game can be enjoyed by children and adults, and it can be a great tool in opening discussions on certain topics.
I attend a convention held at a college every January. They're in their 8th year now, and this game has become a right of passage for any new person attending the gaming area. It's one of the original games in their tournament lineup, and it is the one game that everyone attending looks forward to taking part in.
It's the one game where the guests of honor will show up to play alongside everyone else. It has sparked the most hilarious debates as well as a few serious ones (and with very surprising results).
It's the easiest game to introduce to people that don't play games. It plays just as well with three people or ten (I've been in games with as many as 18 people).
I demo a lot of games at conventions, but this one game is asked for by more people than other game I know of in existence.
It has blank cards so you can right in your own nouns and adjectives. The combinations that can come up are endless.
What can I say, it's a great game that everyone seems to love. And I'm not into word games. I demo SJ, Rio Grande, and Gozer games. People look for those two, but every year at the convention that I run the game room for, Apples to Apples is the one game that gets pulled off the shelf the most (and the game room I run is inhabited by more kids than adults, which is odd compared to the other conventions in the area).
