I think that many of us have wished for a better career from time to time. The problem in most cases is motivation or the lack there of. I have never had a job that there was absolutely no way to advance at. Some required me going back to school to continue my education. Others required waiting for an opening and then showing the decision maker why I was the best candidate for the position. If we would just dig our heels in and become determined to build that more meaningful career I am sure we could succeed.
My daughter who is a junior in high school just dropped a bomb shell on me. She wants to go to Medical School. Knowing that I do not have enough money to pay for this, I showed her how to build her career. My suggestion was to go to school to be a nurse. This would give her a good income to and allow her to pay off any student loans that she might have to take to get her through nursing school. Then once she is debt free she can go back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner. If she still feels like she wants to pursue a career as a doctor, then it's back to school again. The benefit to this plan is that she would not have the huge overhead of student loans to pay off if she would make sure to pay them off as she goes. At anytime she decides she is happy and does not wish to go back to school she can simply stop and use what she has learned to earn a good living.
Too many times we are unable to see ourselves 10 years or 15 years from now. We tend to want something and to want it immediately. Building a meaningful career takes years. In many cases building that career that you dream of will take time and patience, and will have to be built with a series of educational or training programs.
