San Diego has plenty of historical sights to offer any traveler. Starting as south as possible, the Hotel Del Coronado is a good place to start. This hotel is full of history inside of it and is also a nice place to stay while in San Diego, depending on your family's budget.
Next, higher up north is the San Diego Bay which has the Star Of India sailboat and the USS midway, not to mention all of the aircrafts that are on showcase at the Midway.
Next up is Old Town, you can take a trolley or a leisurely stroll through Downtown San Diego on the city's Trolley system. In Old Town you will find a large amount of old fashioned shops and some really really really good Mexican Food.
Next on the list is world famous Balboa Park which has a variety of museums and has the renowned San Diego Zoo. One of the best zoos in the world and one of the largest as well. Many pandas have been born and raised in the zoo, as well as other endangered species.
After all of these places, the historical attractions are not so history oriented. For example, you could head over to Belmont Park right by Pacific Beach. San Diego's oldest roller coaster is still there and it is still fully operational, but one of San Diego's newer attractions is here at Belmont as well. This would be The Wavehouse, where you can see people surf on a stationary wave right in front of your eyes!
Next are towns like La Jolla, Del Mar and Encinitas. Each one of these towns has its own different style and they are the homes of some of San Diego's richest inhabitants.
These towns have some history to them but you kind of have to "shop around" to find it out.
