Ten deadly beauty sins

Beauty basics: How will we know if our mothers never taught us? Well, we also have sisters, best friends, aunts, co workers, neighbors, magazines, TV, internet and most important - - THE MIRROR.

But just in case your mirror is broken and your friends won't fess up, here are, head to toe, ten deadly beauty sins to consider when it's time to go out of the house:

(Like all good sins, you will commit some of these some of the time - just consider yourself warned and be ready to face the consequences!)

10. Fried hair. Dyed is fabulous, fried is drabulous. Get into the stylist ASAP and ask for a trim, some shape, and a conditioning treatment- leave with a frizz control product prescription. [Covering fried hair with a hat, any hat, only adds insult to injury!] Drink more water and take your vitamins to keep hair healthy.

9. Monobrow. Natural beauty is a must, of course! But a little attention to detail can brighten any face. Tweezers are your friend - want natural? Go for "threading" at your local salon - they will remove hair that you didn't even know was there (your friends just didn't want to break it to you!). No matter what, put yourself in the hands of a knowledgeable eyebrow shape professional (or brave friend) and notice people looking you in the eye not between them.

8. Drabby Facial skin, with or without caked on make-up. Sometimes that's hard to help, I know. We don't all have porcelain smooth skin but, don't give up! It's obvious when you do! Cleanse, Polish, Moisturize, do it several times weekly-at least and for your skin type. PLUS: Hydrate, as in - water to flush out toxins and keep your skin glowing. When it's time to cover it up, go gently - even over acne. Cover, don't cake. Dust, don't douse. Less can look like more and a little effort goes a long way.

7. Crusty lips. No, not more lip balm, MORE WATER! Then exfoliate, THEN a light balm, just enough to soothe and then MORE WATER. Exfoliate lips gently with warm water and a rag. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT draw attention to cracked lips by wearing a red or dark shade. Emphasize eyes, downplay lips - neutral is BEST, give your lips a rest.

6. Pungent Aroma. That means too much perfume and/or to little attention to personal hygiene. Bathe? Check. Deodorize? Check. Flush out those toxins again (they stink! and contribute to body odor!) with lots and lots of water? Check. And when you go to apply your fragrance, make sure it doesn't a. compete with the smells from all of your OTHER body care products or b. stop
