Do research before you choose a group training class for you and your dog. Yes, remember it is not just for your dog it is to train you too. Decide what your philosophy on training is and what you want to get out of it. Check out the different methods. Get a book and watch some TV dog trainers. Talk to coworkers and friends and most importantly your Vet to see where they took their dogs and if they have any good advice. The dog trainers should have credentials they can give you and some testimonials from other customers. Check to see how many dogs will be in the class and what their ages are. Make sure that all dogs are required to be up to date on shots as well since they will be in contact with each other frequently. Try to see if you can observer a class before you commit and pay your money. If you can't observe the class try and meet the instructor with your dog ahead of time to see if you and your dog are comfortable with them. My personal experience is that group training can be great fun for the dog but very stressful for the owner. You have to keep your dog from barking and pulling because they are so excited to be there and want to play with the other dogs. The best part is your dog is wiped after the class and sleeps for a while when it is over. The bottom line on training your dog training is you have to keep it up and do what works for you.
