palette: lots of greys & silvery tinged hues, and white (again)in its ethereal aspect.
Also prominent are brocades, heavy embroidery, luxurious fabrics which look decidedly rich and almost overdone. The ornateness of the Baroque period comes to mind.
Retro 40s Glamour-
While it may seem that this season's must have fashion accessory is great legs, what with hem-lines on the way up, there are also a lot of forties inspired tailored looks which emphasize the waist and bring attention back to the upper part of the body. (Thank God!)
Ralph Lauren caters once again for real' women with some very classic and lady-like dresses. Sleeves are just that little bit puffy, prints are bold.
Prada looks as if it's been getting it's inspiration from the epitome of forties glamour and individualism, Katherine Hepburn.
Eighties Trash-
What is the eighties. Can the eighties be summed up in a few key looks?
Can the word 'trashy' sum it up?
Maybe our designers have been tuning in to the Roxy Music vibe c.1980 when Bryan Ferry sang Trash' on their album Manifesto, succinctly summing up the following decade in a few lines; "Slips are up, Trash is In"
Check out the following designers for examples of high brow trashy eighties dressing: Emanuael Ungaro, Emilo Pucci and Alessandro Dell 'Aqua.
Futuristic
Is 'space' really the final frontier? In fashion, maybe it is, because I don't see anyone walking around in anything remotely like the following fanciful looks, not yet, anyway!
View the collections of Bruno Pieters and Balenciaga for examples of crazy, futuristic dressing. I just dare anyone to wear this stuff any-wear but on stage!
Once again the dominating colour palette is metallic and white. A common theme in most of the collections viewed.
Other 'mini' trends which are still kind of related to the above trends are eighties shapes, short skirts and dresses, small bags with long straps, shift dresses (still), zip up fronts, metallic fabrics.
