The role models of today are not what they used to be. They act impulsive and reckless, Uncaring of the consequences to their actions.
Role models of the past were those who we looked up to and mirrored our childhood and adulthood after and tried our best to make them proud. They were our parents and friends or even a teacher. But now we have to sadly re-examine what we as a culture are letting be passed off as a "Good Role Model". I am upset that every time I turn on the television or read my local newspaper I am forced to be exposed the tirades and mistakes of the Lohan's, Paris's, Spears's and many others. The list is to long to name all of those who the children of our nation look up to and model themselves after.
We as a country need to put a stop to allowing the media to choose who our role model's of the week should be. Until we do it seems to only get worse year by year.
Though I didn't grow up in the days of John Wayne and The Lone Ranger I do long for the day when someone like them will stand up and be a role model for the next generation. Hopefully this generation will learn from their mistakes. And not allow their children to fall pray to the shallow and vain role models of today.
By re-examining todays role models we can all learn a little something about what we have allowed over time to be the norm all in an effort to be more lenient then our parents were with us. In the course of doing this, we are destroying the odds of most of the youth in this country being law abiding and successful adults.
Most of todays role models are going from this person to that person and/or ending up in divorces and have sex tapes being released to the media. What happened to class? Just a little bit of it would go a long way for them and America in the process. The times of dignity and good morals being taught to the impressionable and young are in danger of being lost. It all boils down to acting more like parents instead of friends afraid of losing a friendship.
The young people in our country are not going to be able to handle life's up and downs if they our being taught be people who don't know how to grow up themselves and act like a human being with morals.
