This is just a real life story of the spreading epidemic of the methamphetamine crisis. I use to be involved with crowds that did drugs, I also had many friends in school who did not. I have seen it tear apart peoples lives and health even there mentality. This is by no means an isolated case even with the people I associated with . Most notably my best friend in high school essentially lost her life to the drug. Saint Cloud Minnesota at the time in the late 90's was a larger town with a small town feel. It has grown rapidly since then but still retains a small town persona. I have seen many older people who look like there decades older then they are, missing teeth to the drug and more importantly there mind and there life. No one I know has succeeded while addicted to the drug. I have only seen it ravage lives.
First of all I wanted to speak about the pure impact of the drug. Due to its low cost, availability and ease of being cooked in one's own kitchen normally being made out in the country instead of in a foreign land made it all the more accessible. I've had friends go to jail over distribution as well as buying but most of all I have seen it destroy people. Many of the friends I had in high school that would never even touch marijuana when I was younger had since at one point in there life been very addicted. I could not believe at the intensity of the situation when I had been gone for so long.
When you do meth you get hooked, when you start you don't want to stop. It is a stimulant that keeps you awake so when you start to get tired you want nothing more then to get another hit. Many times people lose control and sell everything they have, or stealing just to get some more. I have heard people quoted as saying "All that mattered was getting another bag" the entire focus of there lives at the time. Fortunately for the most part my friends had gotten off it, and if they still do it only on occasion. One of my friends however wasn't as lucky. Back a few years ago she had a big fight with her husband over her out of control attitude and only caring about drugs and the type of people she brought into there home. The stress of there 2 year anniversary pushed the couple over the edge. She ran off with some friends to California and I really never thought I was going to see her again. After roughly a year, she returned and everything was ok I would imagine anyway I was not present the entire time. She came back pregnant
