Yes, campaign fundrasing is a sign of voter support because if you are giving money to a candidate, you must want them to win. They will use that money to better their campaign, and better advertising very well may mean a better chance of winning. Obviously, you want your candidate to have the best advertising so they will win. I don't think you'll be giving Giuliani money if you want McCain to win.
It's not like having personal "friends" or "backers" when raising money, most of the donations are anonymous anyway. The candidates already (most likely) have a fair amount of money of they wouldn't be able to afford the presidency. Giving money isn't giving them a HUGE boost, they can pay for most of the campaigning themselves. Giving the candidates money is just helping them along. Like every vote counts, every dollar counts! In other words, no candidate is losing because of lack of finances.
Besides, you don't have to give an immense amount of money. Just five or 10 dollars is appreciated and will go towards a good cause. And even if your candidate doesn't win, it's not that big a deal, especially if you only donated five or ten, or even twenty dollars, like most people do. If you are one of the quite wealthy that writes a million dollar check for Mitt Romney or John Edwards, I'm sure you're wealthy enough to afford it. And if you don't like losing that money, don't donate it. There are other ways to help your candidate. It's a personal choice to donate money, so if you're really that worried about it, don't donate at all.
