I come from a very mixed background when it comes to my spirituality. Because of that, I am often addressed regarding the fact that I have clung to my basic Christian beliefs regardless of what circle I am in. When I am with my adopted Native American family, when I am with my Wiccan friends, when I am with meditation friends, they all know that I am the "hold out" in their midst.
I agree with them when they say that more atrocities have been committed in the name of Religion than can be counted on this earth by mortal man.
You have to look at the person of Jesus, and not the people that have followed him since. The reason for that is that they are all human, flawed and fearful. That includes the writer.
Still I hold out.
Now why is that? You might ask.
Well in most of the religions that I have encountered in my life there is one thing that seems to be a constant. Jesus is either referred to, or is a "Master" in many of the circles that I have traveled. This being so, it only makes sense to look at what he has to say about himself and what he has to say.
Now, as I said, most of these circles recognize him as a Master. If he was a Master, then he would not lie when he taught. He taught that he was the son of God. Therefore, he was either who he said he was, or he was a liar, or he had delusions of grandeur.
As you look into the issue, you will have to draw your own conclusions.
Personally I think that he is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. That he was telling the truth about himself, but that is my choice. You can draw your own conclusions.
As for my children, they share my beliefs. I am hoping that they pass this along to my grandchildren and that it carries on through generations. While we are not church going folks in the common sense, I see no need to save our children from religion. I pray that they can hold their faith regardless of what else comes their way.
