At first glance, this game looks like a waste of time. However, once you get started it's almost impossible not to get a few laughs in. You never play the same game twice when you play Apples to Apples. Plus, you can play it with any number of people and still have fun. I played with a group of 20 or so people and we played for over an hour!
Basically, a green card is thrown out that has an adjective on it. Everyone who is playing has 7 red cards. The red cards are all nouns ranging from Sean Connery to giraffes to my first kiss to Antarctica. How's that for diversity? Each player throws out a card that they think best matches the adjective. Example: The adjective is fun and the nouns thrown out are all things that each player think are fun. Sounds rather lame doesn't it? But what happens when a player doesn't have any really good answers? They have to improvise which just adds to the fun.
Once all the cards are out, someone has to judge which person wins (new judge for every round). The winner of that round keeps the green card and at the end you see has the most. The outcomes can be absolutely hilarious! I have even tried some variations where a noun is thrown out and we match adjectives. Or try throwing out nouns that are opposite to what the adjective describes. The possibilities are endless!
This is one of the most entertaining games of our generation. It literally never gets old. Give it a try and just see how much fun it can be!
