Everywhere we look today we can find families falling apart. The day of the nuclear family as the main type has almost disappeared to be replaced by blended families of all kinds. In light of these issues, building a strong family takes on even more importance no matter what kind of family it is.
Our family is our first "society". In it we learn much that will either help us or harm us as we begin to deal with people outside of our family. If we learn strong bonds in our families, we will have no trouble building them later with others. A strong family is the nucleus that helps hold our world together. Many survive without it, but more survive with it than without.
First, a strong family provides support. It provides a strong sense of identity through family feedback, and it gives a sense of knowing we are loved unconditionally. Family is our training ground for life and the stronger it is, the stronger the child will be as he or she steps out from the nest to make his or her own way in the world. At least it gives them a better chance.
The importance of keeping strong family bonds within the family cannot be stressed enough. Life is chaotic enough out in the world without a stable, caring family inside. Family bonds are created by spending time together, caring for one another, and sharing family experiences, both good and bad Strong family bonds bring security and give children a safe base on which to try their wings.
Building strong family bonds in the nuclear (or immediate) family, those you are raised with is extremely important. To add to that strength, we should consider promoting a strong bond with our extended family as well. We often tend to get caught up in our family activities and forget we have parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends who are like relatives that our families need too.
Having a strong extended family network, helps build the immediate families strength as well. It gives you support in having others who can help in raising the children and passing on family values and traditions. No matter how busy we are, we should continue to build strong bonds with our families and continue to celebrate and create traditions that give generational stability to your children.
When we feel safe and secure in our own home, we know we have a place to go if life gets to us. Family ties are our first experience with security, with relating to others and more. As our foundation for life, families and the bonds they form are extremely important in determining our future. A solid foundation is a much better start for life than a crumbling one.
