While once it was a difficult matter for the many Non-Profit organizations to get their message out to the masses, gain new volunteers and members, and get funding and donations, the Internet and its many ways of marketing have both lowered the costs of these important tasks and actually made them much easier as well. One of the most commonly overlooked tools available to Non-Profit organizations that the Internet offers is a web-log or blog for short. Blogs offer many benefits to Non-Profit organizations.
Blogs offer Non-Profit organizations a way to get information out to the public on a very large scale. This makes it easy to let potential members and volunteers who may not otherwise know about your organization learn about you. They can be a valuable tool for gaining volunteers and even donations.
A blog is free or very inexpensive to start and easily maintained. There are many blogging services available that allow you to start and maintain a web-log for free, and also provide the software to create and maintain it. You can use this blog to replace an existing, and costly, paper newsletter - or even an email newsletter that often finds its way into the trash without even being read.
Once your blog is set up, you can allow other volunteers or organization members post to the blog. This will take the strain off of just one person and enable the organization to keep a much more updated website. This will make it much easier to let the public know about any upcoming events or fund-raisers the organization may be planning. It will also offer a new way for the organization to educate the public about its issues and goals.
A blog can also offer the Non-Profit organization a new way to gain funding and donations for their cause. There are many programs that will allow you to place relevant ads on your site for free and will gain you advertising income. A blog would be a better place for these ads than the organization's main website. The organization can also offer to review other sites and services that are relevant to its causes for a small advertising fee. They also offer a way to ask for donations in addition to the main site.
Another benefit that blogs offer Non-Profit organizations is the ability to "get their name out there" - they give the organization another web presence and help increase search engine rankings. Exchanging links with other sites that are connected or related to your organization's cause can also increase the traffic and thereby gain potential new volunteers for the organization.
There are many benefits for a Non-Profit organization to gain from maintaining a blog. You can gain new members and volunteers, gain more funding, and cut overhead costs as well. Don't overlook what might be one of the biggest and best tools the Internet offers your organization!
