Poetry: Halloween

Halloween

Dark is the night on this last October eve,
Spiders are busy with clever webs to weave.
Bats swoop and swoon across an eerie sky.
Yet a silvery, full moon is now rising high.

Dusty old bones from the cold ground do creep.
Mummies slowly rise from their morbid sleep.
Zombies hauntingly roam and spirits loom.
Wicked witches laugh and take to a broom.

All through the night the werewolves howl,

Vampires and gargoyles are loosed to prowl.
Spooky ghosts and goblins hover all around.
Slimy, hissing snakes slither over the ground.

Green eyes shine from the black cat's face.
As rats and mice scurry all over the place.
Monsters and dragons their ugly heads rear.
The devil himself and his demons appear.

Grotesque creatures all gather this evil night,
To torment and torture with horror and fright.
A cold, blustery wind begins to chillingly blow.
A thick fog rolls in, snuffing out the moon's glow.

Total darkness fills the night ushering in the fear.
The silence is broken by terrifying noises I hear.
No longer can I see what is lurking just outside.
Off to my bed and under the covers quickly I hide.

It is a long sleepless night as I shiver and shake.
My life I fear these creatures will so grimly take.
Finally the morning sun emerges with a bright sheen,
Chasing away the images of the eve we call Halloween!
