In order to have a meaningful career you must first figure out what you want to do, what makes you happy.
Our jobs are where we spend the majority of our time, it makes sense that we would want to love what we are doing for at least 8 hours of our day. To figure out what would make your job more fulfilling you first need to sit down and assess your current job. What are your responsibilities, what do you do on a daily basis, who do you interact with. Once you have outlined that, go through each item you've written down and think about what would make that item more meaningful, what do you wish you were doing that you aren't. Do you want to tackle a new project, do you sit behind your desk all day and wish you got to interact with people more? Figure out what matters to you. What are you missing in your current position?
Whatever it is that you wish you were doing figure out a plan to incorporate that into your job if you can. Sometimes you may need to change jobs in order to have a truly fulfilling career if you are not happy with the field you're in. But often you can have a more fulfilling career by realizing what it is you're missing and then figuring out a way to include that in your current position. It may mean you have to ask your boss for a new assignment or to allow you to try something new. Whatever it is don't be afraid to go for it. The only way you're going to have a more fulfilling career is if you're willing to try something new and take a risk.
