How do you make sure that your child has healthy "clean teeth" habits when they are away from home? A few tips for clean teeth at school that have been working for me thus far are as follows:
Send you children with healthy sugar free snacks. An apple has natural bad breath busters in it as well helps to strengthen tooth enamel. Send your child to school with milk (or buy milk if your school has a milk program)or water. Pop & sugary juices are the number one cause for childhood cavities. If your child is old enough you can also purchase "brush-ups" which you can instruct your child to use after lunch.
Schools are trying their best nowadays to lessen or right out eliminate the pop and candy vending machines in the schools, but thats not enough. We as parents have to monitor the snacks and drinks we send our children to school with. That alone will (hopefully) make the dentists job a little easier and the dentists bill a little cheaper.
The best thing that my child most easily understands ( and actually does ) is to send a bottle of water to school as well as their regular drink and have them drink water after every meal/snack at school. The water is a quick solution, it rinses most of the sugary stuff off of the teeth at least until they can get home and brush.
