There are pros and cons of both. However, I still choose subtitles over dubbing.
By dubbing a movie, it makes it easier for the person who is watching to comprehend what is going on, without almost any effort. This because it is in one's own language. On the other hand, by reading the subtitles, and hearing the original language spoken, you have the chance to learn a foreign language.

Tests have shown, that the brain learns through different methods, and the best being, 1. through visual input, 2. through auditory input. This naturally only counts for movies and such, because smell or touch wouldn't apply in this case. It has been showed that, if one would do a presentation of some sort, for instance in a meeting, people will pick up much faster if what you are saying is backed up by pictures, or graphics of any kind.

My point is, by just watching a movie in your own language, nothing is achieved, but to have watched a movie. But by hearing the original language, and reading your own, or a different language besides it, you have the chance to unconsciously pick up a new language.
Knowing different languages, even if it is only some basics, is always in your advantage, no matter how you look at it. Plus, with dubbing a movie, it is not unusual for the original things that are being said in a movie to be corrupted, or even be lost because it could not be correctly translated. And with subtitles, you can pick or translate this yourself, when you have attained enough knowledge of the language to do so, making the experience of the movie and the story being told, much better.
